We are extremely excited to offer a six-day Kirtan retreat in the beautiful setting of Altahia, a picturesque retreat centre in the mountainous area of Altea, Spain. The focus will be to provide a firm grounding in how to play the various instruments most commonly used in kirtan–harmonium, mridanga and kartals—as well as vocals. This knowledge will form a strong foundation upon which you can continue to build your skills and become confident in your ability to lead and play in kirtans.
As well as these more practical aspects, kirtan has its roots in a rich lineage of Bhakti-yoga (the practice of connecting with the divine in loving devotion), which we will also cover. This will include a brief history of the origins of kirtan and how we can develop our mood and intention in kirtan alongside developing our musical skills. There will also be morning yoga classes, opportunities for one-to-one music lessons, personal meditation sessions, beach activities, an onsite massage therapist for optional bodywork sessions, and most importantly, delicious Mediterranean style pure vegetarian meals!
The retreat location is situated between a magnificent mountainous backdrop and the stunning Mediterranean coastline with charming local walks and beautiful views all around. We are also close to a beautiful section of the river known as Les Fonts de l’Algar, a collection of small pools and waterfalls with cold crystalline water where you can take an invigorating dip. The venue has many delightful outdoor areas where we will conduct our sessions and where you can relax in between. The yoga-style simple but very clean accommodation is shared, with 2 to 4 people per room and shared bathroom facilities. There is also an onsite swimming pool. It is an ideal setting for a spiritual retreat and is the perfect place to take time out of our busy and often stressful daily lives. Don’t miss this opportunity to recharge and rejuvenate your heart and mind and connect with that place within you that makes you truly happy.
The retreat facilitators are lifelong kirtan practitioners who have been teaching for many years. We are thrilled at this opportunity to share our knowledge and love of kirtan with others. Our hope is to inspire you to make kirtan a part of your life and plunge deeply into this beautiful and profound spiritual activity.
All levels of expertise are welcome on this retreat. Whether you are a complete beginner or already have some experience, this course will cater to your needs.
The retreat will run from 10th – 15th September 2019. The cost is €695, however, there is an EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT of €100 for bookings made before July 25th bringing the price down to €595. For group bookings of 4+ it will be €550 per person.
