The Ratha Yatra /Chariot Festival is the place to be. Brought from the cultural heart of India, this ancient festival is an offering we bring to the city centre of Liverpool every year.

The Ratha Yatra goes back thousands of years, and even these days is one of the largest events in India.
The first time the Ratha Yatra was performed outside of India was on July 9, 1967, in San Francisco, under the supervision of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (1896-1977). Srila Prabhupada, as he is more affectionately known, is the Founder-Acarya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), commonly known the Hare Krishnas Srila Prabhupada lead the Hare Krishna Movement, guiding his disciples to open temples and perform festivals all over the world.

The canopied chariot is decorated with flowers and balloons and is pulled with long, thick rope by hundreds of people. The chariots carrying Jagannath, Baladev and Subhadra are accompanied by a procession of devotees who are ecstatically dancing and chanting the Lord’s Holy Names.

Chariot Procession 12.30-2 pm followed by a cultural festival for the whole family with a wonderful stage show with dance, drama, chanting, and dancing.

Come and join us this year for a full day of bliss, prasadam (spiritual foodstuffs) and chanting of the names of the Lord.
